The Nature of Love

Love isn't something you earn.

We often approach love as something that must be earned.

We may feel there is something we need to do, achieve or become before we deserve it. Love can seem external to us, something another person gives, provides or withholds.

The path of meditation reveals another possibility.

It shows us that love does not depend on us, or anyone else, being a certain way. We do not need to improve ourselves, prove our worth or become a better version of who we are before love becomes available.

At the deepest level, love is already present.

When we slow down and give our experience space, love can arise naturally.

Just as clouds part to reveal the sun, the beliefs that we are unworthy, incomplete or somehow in need of fixing can begin to soften.

We may recognise that unconditional love has not been absent. It has simply been obscured.

“Unconditional love really exists in each of us. It is part of our deep inner being. It is not so much an active emotion as a state of being. It's not 'I love you' for this or that reason... It's love for no reason, love without an object.”
— Ram Dass

The Invitation

A space to let go, and let be.

This half-day retreat is devoted to the direct experience of unconditional love, radical self-acceptance and our inherent wholeness.

Rather than treating self-love as something else we need to accomplish, we will explore what happens when we stop striving and allow ourselves to be exactly as we are.

Our approach will be gentle, immersive and grounded in meditation. The emphasis will be on allowance and acceptance, letting go and letting be. We will trust our own experience and create the conditions in which love, tenderness and inner wisdom can naturally emerge.

  • Guided meditation to ground us in the body and open to loving-kindness
  • Walking meditation
  • Gentle periods of silence and reflection
